Do you have a tooth in pain? Or one that is cracked or damaged? If the tooth cannot be repaired with a filling, crown or cap, then a tooth extraction may be required. Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. Your comfort is our primary goal. We both simple extractions as well as surgical extractions of badly decayed teeth or impacted teeth.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

In our late teens or early twenties, our third molars, commonly known as our wisdom teeth, begin to come in. In many cases, the jaw is simply not large enough to accommodate the extra teeth, and they become impacted, meaning they remain under the gum.

Once impacted, wisdom teeth can cause complications including infection, crowding, damage to other teeth, cysts that permanently damage the jaw and other complications. There are cases as well where the wisdom teeth penetrate through the gums, possibly at an awkward angle, also necessitating wisdom tooth extraction. While it is difficult to predict whether your impacted teeth will cause such damage, it is highly likely complications will arise.

The extraction of wisdom teeth is a common procedure performed under local anesthesia. Barring any complications, the tooth can be easily removed in one piece. After surgery, patients can expect varying levels of swelling and discomfort. However, we do everything possible to minimize pain and recovery time.

We have the team and training to enable us to extract teeth safely and effectively. Call us today for more information.

COVID-19 update:

Patients and friends, due to the government mandated shutdown declared in the state of Kentucky – hospitals performing elective surgeries as well as dental offices, we will be closed the majority of this week.

This week we will be open for EMERGENCIES ONLY (see our Facebook page for what defines a dental emergency, or call our office, check our website for updates) on Thursday Morning April 9th. We will require you to complete a questionnaire and speak with a team member or the doctor before we will be able to see you.

Dental emergencies if not addressed can become life threatening (untreated dental infection can lead to swelling, sepsis, and airway issues) so it is necessary to treat certain conditions at this time, which is why we are still offering limited emergency hours. We want to do our part to keep people out of the Emergency Room at this time. We thank our front line healthcare workers out battling this Virus in the hospital and want to help keep dental issues/infections out of the Emergency Room.

These hours will change on a week to week basis as this is a Novel situation that none of us have ever dealt with before. Continue to check Facebook for updates and please wait in the car if you do have to come in for an emergency dental treatment.

We want to assure our patients we are abiding to the highest level of sterilization protocol and following all CDC guidelines as well as the recommendations of the American Dental Association and the Kentucky Dental Association.

We want to comply with social distancing but are still available during the aforementioned hours to care for patients with URGENT AND EMERGENT DENTAL NEEDS. If you have a cleaning scheduled until April 10th, it is cancelled and will be re-scheduled when business hours go back to their customary times.

Thanks everyone, stay safe, stay home, wash your hands, and let us know if you need us.
